ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — The New York State Department of Health reaffirmed its commitment to LGBTQ+ communities by participating in Pride festivities last month, the DOH’s July 3 press release said.
According to the press release, some DOH staff members participated in Pride events across the state and marched for the first time in the Capital Pride Parade in Albany.
“I am proud to lead a state health department that so clearly demonstrates our daily commitment to health equity and the LGBTQ+ community,” state Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald wrote in the press release.
The DOH participated in Pride events in Buffalo, two events in Albany: Capital Region BIPOC Pride and Capital Pride 2024, and attended Pride Night at the Plaza, with approximately 70 employees and their families marching in the Capital Pride Parade, according to the news release.
We provide these public health services and supports throughout the year, as part of our ongoing commitment to protect and promote health and well-being for all.
Dr. McDonald writes.
Their involvement in the festivities aims to raise awareness that all communities can achieve optimal health, with access to positive care and support services, without stigma, the DOH says.
Upcoming Pride events the DOH will be participating in include the Rochester Pride Festival on July 20 and NYC Black Pride from August 14-18.
