Instacart has partnered with Northwell Health, New York’s largest health system, to provide grocery allowances to select patients who can purchase healthy groceries through its last-mile delivery service.
The program is aligned with Northwell’s Maternal Health Maternal Outcomes and Morbidity Collaborating Center and focuses on maternal health in Black and Brown communities, the company said in a press release.
Pregnant women who participate in the program can access Northwell’s Healthy Choice Storefront through the app where they can shop select products and receive nutritional advice.
“Promoting health is about more than the care Northwell provides in our hospitals and clinics. It’s also about how we nurture people in our communities and elevate their health expectations. That’s why Northwell gives more than $2 billion to communities each year,” Debbie Salas Lopez, senior vice president of Northwell’s Office of Community Wellness and Population Health, said in a press release. “Our collaboration with Instacart is part of our comprehensive community health efforts, providing the tools and resources to provide nutritious food to our staff, patients and communities.”
Sarah Mastrorocco, vice president and general manager of Instacart Health, said the program will leverage Instacart’s scale and health tools to “create effective nutrition access and education programs that help solve real challenges in our communities.”
“Research shows that a healthy diet during pregnancy can significantly improve the health of mothers and babies and reduce the risk of several common complications,” Mastrorocco added. “By providing Fresh Fund benefits to help mothers have better access to nutritious foods and consumer tools to put the advice of Northwell Health experts into practice, we are supporting programs that make our communities healthier.”
