Iwan Syarir, Director General of Early Childhood Education, Basic and Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, praised the publication of the book, titled “Working Together for the Country: Philanthropy Accelerating Indonesia’s Education Agenda,” as a testament to the spirit of philanthropy through mutual cooperation and inter-organizational synergy that will bring about the improvement and transformation of Indonesia’s education.
“The book provides an important overview of the current state of education in Indonesia, the efforts of charities to maintain the spirit of education advocacy in the spirit of justice and equality, the opportunities to improve education throughout the independence movement, and how charities can intervene and support the overall improvement of the national education program and mutual cooperation,” Iwan said on Friday (19/7/2024).
Iwan believes that the book can be an important reference for the central and local governments in formulating a national strategic work plan to improve Indonesia’s education system.
Indonesia Charity Association Secretary General Gusman Yahya explained that education plays a key role in forming the foundation for sustainable development, individual well-being and national development. Therefore, investing in education is considered an essential step to achieve sustainable development and improve the well-being of society.
“Philanthropy, including donations from civil society and the private sector, can play an important role in supporting government efforts. Philanthropy can contribute greatly to overcoming challenges in the education sector and promoting a more inclusive, innovative and sustainable education system,” Gassman said.
Guzmán stressed the need to strengthen the principle of mutual cooperation and involve all actors, including philanthropists. Another strength of philanthropy is its flexibility to co-create and act together with other philanthropic organizations and public institutions, thereby accelerating and supporting the nation’s strategic objectives.
“We hope that this study will be a source of inspiration for all stakeholders involved in deeper intervention activities related to education issues, as well as for charitable organizations that want to start working in the education sector in Indonesia,” Gasman concluded.
