Fishing Point Healthcare serves the less fortunate throughout Hampton Roads, and the center’s second phase had its grand opening over the weekend.
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The first of its kind facility has opened in Portsmouth.
Fishing Point Healthcare held its grand opening Saturday. The facility was established by the Nansemond Indian Nation to serve Medicaid patients and Native Americans.
It’s part of an integrated health service established by the Nansemond Indian Nation in 2023. The nation, which currently has about 450 members, received federal recognition in 2018.

Native Americans are an often overlooked and underserved population, but Fishing Point Healthcare aims to provide quality healthcare services to those living here in Hampton Roads.
Fishing Point (an English translation of the Algonquian name “Nansemond”) has grown from home health care for Medicaid patients to mental health and addiction recovery services in Chesapeake, along with a primary care clinic and pharmacy in Portsmouth.
Located at the corner of London Boulevard and High Street, Fishing Point Center serves Medicaid recipients, uninsured individuals and Native American communities.
Portsmouth Mayor Shannon Glover attended the opening of the new facility.
It is open from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and closed on weekends.
