HANNAHVILLE — After breaking ground more than a year ago, the Hannaville Indian Community’s new medical clinic and government services building is nearing completion. The community is expected to break ground in June 2023 and be completed by November of this year.
But Tribal Council Chairman Kenneth Meshigord said they expect to receive the keys to the facility on Sept. 1.
“I’m really excited.” Meshigor said.
It took a year and a half of planning for the Hannah Building to break ground, but the finishing touches are now being put on the new center.
The 56,000-square-foot building, located east of the Potawatomi Heritage Center, will include a tribal courthouse, food pantry, tribal government offices and a health, dental and vision center.
“We decided to consolidate all of the services we provide to our tribal members and the Potawatomi community in one place to make it easier for them to find our services.” Meshigor said.
While the building may be completed sooner than expected, Meshigor said he has yet to decide when it will officially open. Bringing together so many departments is a logistical nightmare, but he said they have the best people working to make it happen.
Health Director Suzie Meshigoe spoke about what the facility means to the community and said she hopes to expand in the future.
“We have recently added optical services for certain demographics within our community and plan to expand to other demographics in the future.” She said:
Meshigord said the building is funded internally through revenue from the health center and various grants.
One of the center’s many goals is to be able to provide services such as x-rays and mammograms, she said.
“Having a new building and the ability to expand in the future will allow us to provide more services to our residents and community members. It also gives us more room to expand current services to improve access, such as dental.” She said:
To better serve its residents, the center is increasing the number of medical and dental examination rooms and also has the infrastructure in place to provide the pediatric dental services the center hopes to offer in the future.
She said while there has been mixed reaction from the community, she has heard many positive comments about the new structure.
“People are excited to see it finished and up and running.” She said:
Milon Construction Co., Ltd. served as construction manager and ISG served as architect.
The center is located at N15756 Hannahville B-1 Road.
