This happened just after 3pm this afternoon. KCCI’s O’Felie Jacobson will be reporting live from Knoxville tonight with the details of what happened. O’Felie? Ben and Stacey… This incident happened at Acura Healthcare of Knoxville. We’re outside the fire station tonight to protect the privacy of the residents. We’re told the building is back in service and they’re moving residents back inside. Knoxville Fire Department says a minivan crashed into a resident’s room. Officials say when they arrived on scene they found a resident trapped and extricated the person. Officials say one person was pronounced dead at Knoxville Hospital and the other was airlifted to a trauma center in Des Moines. Officials say the building sustained significant damage. Residents were forcibly evacuated and transported to Knoxville Hospital and the National Guard Armory while the building was cleared. Aqura Healthcare told KCCI there are 51 residents at the facility, mostly seniors who require skilled long-term care.

A minivan crashed through the exterior wall of a Knoxville medical facility and struck a resident Monday afternoon, killing one and sending the other to a hospital in Des Moines. Authorities say the accident happened at about 3:20 p.m. Monday at the Acura Healthcare facility. Knoxville Fire Department said the minivan crashed into a resident’s room, trapping the resident and requiring extrication. As a result of the accident, Rebecca Richardson, 70, of Knoxville, was pronounced dead at a Knoxville hospital and Doris McCombs, 86, of Knoxville, was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Des Moines, according to Iowa State Police. Iowa State Police identified McCombs as the driver of a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. The incident remains under investigation, according to the ISP accident report.Due to the damage sustained and “out of an abundance of caution,” emergency personnel instructed residents to evacuate the facility until the building could be evaluated, Accura HealthCare said in a press release. By 9 p.m., repairs to the building had been completed and it was deemed safe for residents to return. Accura HealthCare of Knoxville has 51 residents, primarily seniors who require long-term care. According to Iowa State Police, 70-year-old Rebecca Richardson of Knoxville was pronounced dead at a Knoxville hospital and 86-year-old Doris McCombs of Knoxville was transported by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital following the crash.
Iowa State Police identified McCombs as the driver of a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. The incident remains under investigation, according to the Iowa State Police crash report.
Acura Healthcare said in a press release that due to damage to the building and “out of an abundance of caution,” emergency personnel instructed residents to evacuate the facility until they could assess the condition of the building. By 9 p.m., repairs had been completed and the building was deemed safe for residents to return.
