JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is stepping up efforts to protect Indonesian migrants in Kinabalu, Malaysia.
BNPT President Mohamad Rico Amerza Daniel stressed the importance of national unity in fighting extremism during a visit to the Indonesian Consulate General on July 20.
“We must stay true to our national motto of unity in diversity by embracing differences, while remaining vigilant against those seeking to spread ideas linked to extremism and terrorism,” he noted, citing an official statement received here on Sunday.
BNPT’s visit also focused on raising public awareness, especially among vulnerable groups such as women, youth and children.
Indonesian Consul General Rafael Warangitan praised the BNPT’s efforts while acknowledging the transnational nature of terrorism.
“The threat of terrorism transcends borders,” he said, emphasizing the need to remain constantly vigilant.
Imam Subekti, BNPT’s Director of International Legal Documents, presented the results of a survey on Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) involved in terrorism.
Investigations have revealed that some Indonesian migrant workers have participated in terrorism-related activities, including social media advertising, fundraising and acts related to extremist beliefs.
BNPT’s visit concluded with a screening of the documentary “Pirihan (Choice),” which explores how social media is being used to recruit Indonesian female migrant workers into extremist groups.
