JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan stressed that cooperation is essential for Indonesia to become a global Islamic fashion hub.
He acknowledged the challenges in achieving this goal at the launch of the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2025 on Wednesday.
He stressed that it is essential to establish Indonesia as a hub for the Islamic fashion and halal industry, and called on the government and fashion designers to work together to achieve this goal.
“Without collaboration, we can’t create great things,” he said. “This goal is our number one program priority.”
Hasan said the ministry is actively supporting this effort through various initiatives, including trade diplomacy, trade agreements and promotional campaigns in non-traditional markets such as the Middle East, India, Africa and South America.
He added that trade promotion is aimed at increasing export value, including in the textile sector.
“Business matching events, exhibitions, digital marketing campaigns and participation in events like New York Fashion Week are all part of our strategy to boost exports,” he said.
The 2025 JMFW is a joint effort by the Ministry of Trade, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and other relevant ministries and agencies.
The event aims to showcase a diverse range of products including modest fashion apparel and related industries such as textiles, cosmetics, jewellery, accessories and lifestyle essentials.
Held in 2023, JMFW 2024 saw over 214 designers showcasing over 1,000 collections. The event ended with a successful outcome, with increased transaction value reaching US$20.1 million compared to US$13.2 million in 2022.
