DVIDS – News – NMCSD Public Health Office Receives Navy SG “Blue H” Award

The Naval Medical Center San Diego Public Health Office celebrated receiving the Navy Surgeon General’s Health Promotion and Wellness Award during morning operations July 26, 2024.

The Health Promotion and Wellness Awards are annual awards sponsored by the Surgeon General of the Navy and administered by the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center.

“I’m honored to accept this award on behalf of the command, my department, DPH, and my division, Health and Wellness,” said Preston Thrift, public health educator for NMCSD’s Health and Wellness Division. “It took a lot of hard work from everyone to make this happen.”

The award encourages and recognizes the promotion of wellness within Navy and Marine Corps organizations.

“We’re not only getting help to active duty military members, but also to dependents and veterans,” Thrift said. “This is a year’s worth of work to say we’ve accomplished everything the Surgeon General says we need to do to maintain a healthy population of service members and beneficiaries.”

There are three versions of the award: the “Medical” version recognizes excellence in clinical primary prevention, community health promotion and medical staff wellness within the Navy’s medical organization;
