JAKARTA, Indonesia (ANTARA/PRNewswire) – Indonesia’s regulatory environment is dynamic and complex, with the business sector increasingly turning to external legal experts to navigate various legal challenges. In the past year, at least 129 law firms handled mergers and acquisitions cases in Indonesia, and 125 law firms managed arbitration, litigation and dispute resolution cases. In total, these firms handled more than 3,000 cases, reflecting the vibrant interplay between business and the law in the country.
“The business sector needs legal certainty and the expertise of law firms and lawyers who are truly competent in their respective fields of practice,” said Hukumonline CEO Alka Diratara at Hukumonline’s Practice Leaders & Top 100 Indonesian Law Firms 2024 event. To support businesses in finding the most qualified legal professionals, Hukumonline has relaunched its Practice Leaders directory.
Practice Leaders is a comprehensive directory that profiles hundreds of Indonesian law firms based on their performance in 32 practice areas. In 2024, Hukumonline surveyed 228 law firms and recorded over 3,000 cases handled by these firms. The directory serves as a key hub connecting in-house lawyers, corporate secretaries, and other legal professionals with key legal services.
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) chairman Arshad Rasjid said he hopes the Practice Leaders Initiative, part of Hukmonline’s Top 100 Indonesian Law Firms event for 2024, will foster collaboration among legal practitioners and create a legal environment that values integrity. “Law firms provide important legal services that help the industry navigate regulatory frameworks, mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws,” said Chairman Rasjid.
Hukumonline’s Top 100 Indonesia Law Firms event recognizes the achievements of law firms across the country. This year, 236 law firms from different provinces participated, an increase of 12.85% from 2023. Participating firms are categorized as full-service law firms (76.27%), non-litigation law firms (13.98%) and litigation law firms (9.74%).
Moreover, the Top 100 Indonesian Law Firms 2024 will have 16 categories, three of which will be evaluated by an external jury consisting of Dr. iur. Asmin Fransiska, SH, LL.M, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Indonesian Atma Jaya Catholic University, Said Zaidansyah, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Permanent Mission in Papua New Guinea, and Seradesy Sumardi, President of the Indonesian Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA). The jury will evaluate law firms based on qualitative data, including descriptions of the work and transactions handled in the past year.
“We thoroughly evaluate each nominee based on rigorous and objective criteria. Through this process, the judges not only identify proven law firms and lawyers, but also promote higher professional standards across the legal industry,” said Seradesy Sumardi, speaking on behalf of the judges.
