tempo, Jakarta – Indonesia strongly condemned the recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilian facilities, including a children’s hospital, which killed dozens of civilians. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement on Thursday, July 11, stressing that these attacks are a violation of international law.
“Indonesia strongly condemns the attacks on Ukrainian civilian facilities, including the Children’s Hospital, resulting in civilian casualties,” the Indonesian defence ministry said on social media platform X.
Ukraine observed a national day of mourning on July 9 for the 44 civilians killed in a Russian airstrike on July 8, including four children and two patients at Okhmadyt hospital, Ukraine’s largest pediatric hospital.
The United Nations Human Rights Mission said on Tuesday, July 9, that Kyiv’s main children’s hospital was “likely” to have been hit directly by a Russian missile in a series of airstrikes on Kyiv, Krivoy Rog and other Ukrainian cities.
“Analysis of the video footage and assessment at the scene of the incident indicate that the children’s hospital most likely received a direct hit, rather than damage from an intercepted weapons system,” said Daniel Bell, head of the U.N. human rights monitor in Ukraine.
Ukrainian security officials say they have clear evidence that a medical facility was hit by a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile in the deadliest series of attacks in recent months, and released images of what appeared to be debris from the missile’s engine.
Russia denies responsibility, claiming without providing evidence that the damage was caused by Ukrainian missile defences, not Russian ones.
Indonesia’s foreign ministry deemed the attack a violation of international law: “There are rules in war. Indonesia calls for the continuation of peace efforts to stop the war in Ukraine.”
