tempo, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir urged China-based social media giant TikTok to quickly increase its investment in Indonesia, highlighting Indonesia’s position as Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
“I hope TikTok will not be an unknown entity to Indonesia. TikTok must dare to invest in this country more than other countries,” he said after attending the launch of “TikTok I Pos Aja! Creator House” in Kota Tua, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/7).
Eric claims to have met with all of TikTok’s executives and believes the platform should not distance itself from Indonesia. “Indonesia’s economic potential is much greater than other countries, so if other countries get one investment, Indonesia deserves at least four,” he said.
He further highlighted the country’s fast-growing digital economy, which is projected to reach Rp 4,500 trillion by 2030. While Indonesia is not currently the top economy in the region, it is expected to be in the top 15 by 2029 and in the top five by 2045.
“Our goal is to build mutually beneficial growth. We appreciate TikTok’s support for small and medium-sized enterprises and content creators. Don’t let Indonesia become a stranger,” he added.
During the event, the minister also highlighted the efforts of state-run postal service PT Pos Indonesia to rehabilitate historical buildings to attract public attention and ultimately increase profitability. “I urge all state-owned enterprises to actively seek partnerships with SMEs, the private sector and foreign investors in a transparent and professional manner,” the minister said.
Erick Thohir further stressed the need for PT Pos Indonesia to adapt to the digital era by integrating its services with its logistics business: “PT Pos Indonesia should not become a ‘forgotten dinosaur’ but a leading aggregator of Indonesia’s e-commerce supply chain.”
