An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian province of Maluku on Tuesday.
The country’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake’s epicenter was 226 km from the Tanimbar Islands, at a depth of 163 km.
No material damage or deaths have been reported so far following the earthquake.
Indonesia is regularly prone to earthquakes because it is located on the Pacific Rim known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
