Jefferson County Public Health will launch a mobile clinic to address barriers to accessing health care.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Jefferson County Public Health is launching its first-ever mobile clinic to provide medical care on the go.
The clinic will be housed in a van that will travel around the county providing the same services as the on-site clinic, with the goal being to serve those who live in rural areas, have limited mobility or don’t have transportation.
“We have incredibly talented nurses and health care workers who want to provide this important clinical public health care,” said Max Johnson, director of clinic services for Jefferson County Public Health. “This is our way of saying, ‘We see you, we hear you, we understand your needs and we want to meet them.'”
The van is packed with technology to help keep power flowing in rural areas, where previously the health department had to rely on local partners for power and shelter to conduct clinic visits in rural parts of the county.
“The base has a power runway that acts as a sort of off-site generator and also has freezers to store COVID-19 and flu vaccines,” Johnson said.
In addition to vaccines, the clinic will also provide sexual health and substance use services.
The clinic will serve the community through public events and home visits. Public events for the mobile clinic can be found on Jefferson County Public Health’s social media, and home visits can be requested on the Jefferson County Public Health website.
Johnson said nurses are screening everyone who wants to visit to make sure they meet the requirements for a home visit.
“If we can’t come to your home and provide you with personalized in-home care, you may not have all of the prerequisites for that care. We’ll look at that and see where the next event is closest to you and try to match you up with that if possible or figure out how to get you into one of our onsite clinics,” Johnson said.
On July 10, Jefferson County Public Health will host a grand opening ceremony in the parking lot of the Belmar Park Library at 10 a.m. The department is inviting local residents to share their thoughts on how the mobile clinic can best serve local residents.
