Ralph Lauren released a statement on Tuesday night saying the company has no connection to recent media reports in Indonesia regarding a dispute between PT Mangala Putra Perkasa, which operates in Indonesia under the name “Polo Ralph Lauren Indonesia,” and other parties in the country.
“We want to be clear that we are not affiliated or connected in any way with Ralph Lauren and that Ralph Lauren is not involved in these disputes,” the statement said.
Ralph Lauren does not currently operate any direct stores in Indonesia, nor has it approved any agreements with partners or distributors to operate “Polo Ralph Lauren” or other “Ralph Lauren” branded stores in Indonesia, the company said. “To meet customer demand in Indonesia, we only sell our products through select third-party retailers,” the company said.
“We are aware of multiple third parties, including PT Manggara Putra Perkasa, who has also established a subsidiary called PT Polo Ralph Lauren Indonesia, having registered trademarks similar to Ralph Lauren’s trademarks in Indonesia,” the company said.
“We recognize that these trademarks and names may cause confusion,” the statement said. “As part of our efforts to provide authentic products and experiences to consumers in the region, Ralph Lauren is committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure that copyrights, trademarks and other intellectual property rights are not infringed.”
