MHA was featured in the media during the week of July 15th on Michigan health care priorities, the state budget and the intersection of public health and health care.
Hillsdale Hospital released an episode of the Rural Health Rising podcast on July 18, interviewing MHA CEO Brian Peters about the current state of health care in Michigan and the efforts being made to support rural hospitals.
“We really need to focus on the right strategies, the right tactics to continue to provide access to health care for all people in rural Michigan,” Peters said. “I’m really honored to be a part of that journey.”
Laura Appel, MHA’s executive vice president of government relations and public policy, also appeared as a guest on the Hillsdale podcast on July 11 to discuss the fiscal year 2025 state budget.
“aisle [of the state budget] “This is the culmination of many months of work,” Appel said. “The big win that we’ve got is direct funding to allow us to have peer recovery coaches in the hospital to help people with substance use issues who are in the emergency room or are hospitalized for any reason.”
Lauren Lapine, MHA’s senior director of legislative and public policy, was featured in a July 16 article in Model D and Flintside exploring how collaboration between hospitals and public health partners can benefit Michigan communities.
“Public health and hospitals working together truly protect and promote the health of the community,” Lapine said. “Public health focuses on prevention and hospitals focuses on health intervention.”
