TEXARKANA, AR — It’s been a week since a new coffee shop opened in historic downtown Texarkana.
The Rabbit Hole (422 N. State Line Ave.) is a faith-based, non-profit company whose goal is to unite the Texarkana community.
“God told us to open this store,” said Lisa Henry, who owns the store with her husband, Randy.
The Rabbit Hole is not your typical coffee shop. In addition to drinking coffee, you can also use it as a place for Bible study and conversation. The name comes from the fact that various surprises appear.
“When you walk in here, it’s like Alice in Wonderland. You fall down the rabbit hole and you never know which direction you’re going to go,” Henry said.
The family-friendly store is lined with sofas and musical instruments such as keyboards and guitars brought in from Henry’s home for those who want to play. There are also quiet rooms to relax in, Wi-Fi and meeting space.
The Rabbit Hole offers coffee, tea, pastries and a full breakfast and lunch menu.
“We’re just locals, and you can expect great hospitality in Texarkana…Our goal is to make everyone happy,” Henry said.
Henry encourages local vendors to bring in items to sell. He just asks them to make some kind of donation.
“Our main goal is to involve the community. We want to grow downtown Texarkana,” Henry said.
Because the building is located in a historic district, the Henrys decided to keep the building’s original flooring and not make too many changes.
“Everything here is something we’ve been blessed with. Either it’s been donated or we found something we wanted,” Henry said.
She picked out a piece of furniture.
“It’s like that blue chair. It’s kind of an ugly blue chair, but it’s very comfortable and fits perfectly,” Henry said with a laugh. “We had no idea about decorations. That’s The Rabbit Hole. You never know what you’re going to get when you come.”
The Rabbit Hole is partnering with Bare Bottom Bedding Co., with proceeds going to mission efforts.
Rabbit Hole is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s across the street from the Federal Building.
