1. Indonesia imposes import tariffs on seven items from various countries
Indonesia’s Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said the government will impose import tariffs on seven items imported from different countries.
“Yesterday, at a limited meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo, it was decided (to impose tariffs) on seven items. The items are textiles, ready-made garments, ceramics, electronics, cosmetics, textile products and footwear,” Zulkifli Hasan said on Saturday (6/7/2024).

2. Indonesian blog claims to be “victim” of alleged price hike of rice imports from Vietnam
Indonesia’s state-owned food distributor Bulog claims to be the victim of alleged “price gouging” on rice imports from Vietnam, which have been reported to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“Brogue is the victim of this baseless report intended to create a negative reputation for (Brogue),” Brogue’s Corporate Secretary Alwakdin Widyarso said in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday (7/7), 2024.

3. Heavy rains in Cirebon, West Java, flood more than 4,200 houses
The Cirebon Provincial Disaster Prevention and Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that at least 4,269 houses were flooded due to heavy rains that hit several areas in the province since Saturday, July 6, 2024. More than 16,310 people and 5,443 households were affected by the floods, the BPBD reported.
Abdul Muhari, head of the National Disaster Management Agency’s Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, said the floods were caused by the overflowing of several major rivers in the region, including the Wangga Ayam, Pembuang Posong, Winong, Jonggol and Seriganara rivers.
