Tammi Pierce, RN Case Manager at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown, is the latest recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award.
Pierce has been nominated twice for a DAISY Award. The first time was for a patient on a medical/surgical unit who needed help rebuilding their life so they could be safely discharged from the hospital. Pierce worked with the patient outside of housing, outpatient resource programs and home health care, demonstrating courtesy, compassion, empathy and respect.
The second nomination came from a team member who noted that Pierce routinely goes above and beyond her job description to ensure safe patient discharges, assist in the emergency department, and improve workplace culture. The nomination concluded with, “She is always up for a challenge, especially if it leads to a smoother discharge for UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown’s patients. Tammy is amazing!”
“Healthcare is truly about teamwork, and I love working with my team to meet the needs of our patients,” says Pierce. “Patients and teams face increasing challenges, and if I can meet their care needs to benefit everyone, I have met my ongoing goal as a nurse. I am proud of my years of service and work experience, and if I can bring a smile to someone’s face, my day is complete.”
The DAISY Awards are a national program that recognizes the clinical skills, exceptional compassion and care that nurses demonstrate every day. The awards are presented monthly to outstanding nurses at more than 2,300 healthcare facilities in all 50 states and 15 countries.
