GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — With roughly 100 days left until the November election, Michigan Democrats and presidential candidate Harris are launching their first “weekend of action.”
Democratic U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten spoke at a campaign kickoff in Grand Rapids on Saturday.
“There’s a ton of door-to-door efforts happening across the state of Michigan and across West Michigan,” Skorten, of Grand Rapids, told News 8. “This weekend marks the beginning of a significant effort that will continue for the next 100 days.”
Candidate Harris said her weekend of action will include a press conference and 185 events across the state. Visits from politicians like former Democratic Congresswoman Gabby GiffordsA congresswoman from Arizona who was injured in a shooting in 2011.
Michigan is considered a battleground state and is expected to receive increased attention from both parties ahead of the November election. Former President Donald Trump last week held a rally in Grand RapidsThis is the first time since the assassination attempt.

“We have a strong, coordinated effort in Michigan to get Democrats elected in every district,” Skorten told News 8. “We know the presidential election is important, but we also have some really big, important races in West Michigan.”
Scholten is Selected in 2022 She’s running to represent Michigan’s 3rd congressional district, becoming the first Democrat to represent the area since the ’70s, according to the Associated Press. She’s up for re-election this year.
He said it was vital that people get out and vote.
“The enthusiasm is clear right now, both online and in the halls,” Skorten said, “but we need to translate that into concrete action and get people to actually vote.”
