The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has announced the final roster of its 2024 Olympic team, with nearly 600 athletes competing in 31 sports in Paris. Gymnast Simone Biles, swimmer Katie Ledecky and sprinter Noah Lyles are making their Olympic return and leading Team USA, considered gold medal contenders, are expected to send the largest contingent to Paris. The team will include athletes from 46 states and the District of Columbia, ranging in age from 16 to nearly 60. Republican majority on Nevada county commission refuses to certify election
Three Republican commissioners in Nevada’s key battleground counties have refused to certify an election recount, sowing new unrest in a community that has become a hotbed of election skepticism, misinformation and ill will toward public officials since the 2020 election. The commissioners make up a majority on the five-member Reno-area Washoe County Commission, which will be responsible for conducting a similar vote after the Nov. 5 presidential election. read more

Spending a little extra time in space
The week-long trip comes to an end, bringing their stay to 35 days. NASA announced last month that the first astronauts aboard Boeing’s troubled Starliner are not “stranded” at the International Space Station, but the space agency has also set a clear deadline for bringing them home. According to an update on Wednesday, Navy test pilots Barry “Batch” Wilmore and Sunita “Suni” Williams could stay at the International Space Station (ISS) until later in the summer. Scientists and engineers are working on tests to better understand and resolve issues that arose during Starliner’s launch and flight last month, including thruster malfunctions and helium leaks. read more
