It could have been a rematch of the 2020 presidential election, but that changed on Sunday after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race.
Biden quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, and Harris’ campaign immediately went to work, garnering support from a majority of the party to transfer delegate pledges from Biden to Harris.
Assuming Harris does indeed win the nomination, she will have just over 100 days to campaign.
However, Republican candidate Donald Trump maintains an advantage over his Democratic opponent in seven states that are crucial to securing the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

The following states switched parties between the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections:
- Arizona
- Wisconsin
- Michigan
- Pennsylvania
- Georgia
Nebraska has proportional electoral votes, with one vote flipping to the Democrats in 2020. Nevada and North Carolina are also considered battleground states.
