As Republicans gathered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this week for the Republican National Convention, President Joe Biden continued to face calls for him to resign, raising questions about his turbulent future after he announced on Wednesday that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Concerns about Biden’s age are not new, but fundamentally, Democrats are unsure whether the 81-year-old can beat rival Donald Trump.
Nate Silver, a statistician and author who has been reporting on presidential poll numbers amid the political hysteria, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to share an update on Biden’s chances of winning the November election.

Who is Nate Silver?
Silver is a statistician and author who founded and served as editor-in-chief of the political polling website FiveThirtyEight (now known as 538) after it was acquired by ABC News.
So what does he think about the Biden-Trump race? Simply put, things aren’t looking good for Democrats.
After Biden met with George Stephanopoulos, the statistician said it would be best for Biden to step down from X post.
Silver recently posted an update to X from his blog, The Silver Bulletin, in which he wrote, “Pretty tough polling day for Biden, reversing a slight recovery from earlier in the week.”
The graph shows that Biden’s chances of victory were much lower than Trump’s from the start, but have declined recently.
“I don’t think he has any ability to run a normal campaign,” Silver, who co-hosts the Risky Business podcast with Maria Konnikova, said in a July 10 episode called “How to convince Biden to step down.” Biden is only going to fall further behind, Silver continued, and his gut feeling tells him there’s no way America will choose him.
Republicans have latched onto whispers of a presidential exit and have said they won’t agree to a debate with newly-nominated vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance because the Democratic nominee is still unclear.
